Talking About Pest Control

Hi there, my name is Harvey. Welcome to my site. I am here to talk to you about pest control. There are so many different pests in my area. We have spiders, ants, house centipedes and moths that seem to congregate together at various times of the year. In other parts of the world, there are even more pests waiting to enter the homestead undetected. I would like to share pest control practices everyone can use to keep insects out of their homes. I hope you will visit my site often to learn all you can about pest control. Thanks for visiting.

4 Tips To Help You Better Control Ants

Carlos Douglas

This time of year, it's pretty common to find the occasional ant in your home. There is no reason to panic and assume you need to call the pest control company just yet. If you're only seeing a few ants, they are probably scouts coming in rather than ants that have actually established a colony in your home. If you follow the tips below, you should be able to get and keep them under control.

Keep the outside clean, too

When people start finding ants in their home, they often start cleaning furiously. There is nothing wrong with this. A clean home is certainly less appealing to ants. However, you also need to focus on the outside of your home. If ants are taking up residence in a trash bin or wood pile in your yard, then it won't be long before they work their way into your house as well. Hose out your trash bins, clean up any junk piles in your yard, and just do some general tidying up.

Use baits and traps

Instead of just using traps to catch the ants, use baits as well. Baits are little tubs filled with ant killers that have a delayed effect. The ant will go and grab the bait, carry it back to the nest, and share it with other ants. So no matter where the nest is, the bait will reach the ants. This approach is a lot easier than trying to track down the location of the nest.

Clean more often

When you first find out there are ants, you'll probably do a deep cleaning. This is important, but what's more important is that you keep up with the regular, daily cleaning so that crumbs and other debris don't stick around long enough for ants to find them. Set up a 10-minute morning cleaning routine and a 10-minute evening cleaning routine for yourself. Never leave dishes out overnight or put off vacuuming up some dropped crumbs.

Check your houseplants

Houseplants are an often-overlooked attractant for ants. The ants may feed on a component of the potting soil, and they may also thrive on the moisture. If you are noticing a lot of ants near and on your house plants, your best bet might be to get rid of the plants.
