We have spiders, ants, house centipedes and moths that seem to congregate together at various times of the year. In other parts of the world, there are even more pests waiting to enter the homestead undetected. I would like to share pest control practices everyone can use to keep insects out of their homes. 5 Tips To Keep Bugs Out Of Your Home

Carlos Douglas

Insects play an important role in our environment, but no one wants ants, spiders, roaches, crickets, or other creepy crawlies to take up residence in his or her home. While you may not be able to prevent a single bug from getting into your home, there are many things that you can do to make your home inhospitable for insects and avoid an infestation. Use the following tips to keep pests out of your house:

Regular Pest Control Services

One of the easiest ways to keep bugs out of your house is by scheduling regular pest control services with a local exterminator like Quality Exterminators Of Georgia Inc. You can opt for a general spraying to help keep bugs away, or your exterminator may suggest a more aggressive type of pesticide if you are seeing a lot of one particular type of insect. Some pesticides can be harmful for household pets and small children, so talk to your exterminator about your options if you have kids, cats, or dogs. Pesticide does not last forever, so plan on having your house and property treated every few months.

Keep Counters Clean

One reasons that insects enter homes is to look for food. If there are crumbs or other food debris sitting on your counter, they are going to attract bugs. Make sure that you clean your counters regularly to remove any food sources. Also, rinse your dishes thoroughly to remove all food particles before putting them in the sink.

Take Away the Water Source

A puddle on the counter, a leaking faucet, or a bowl of water for a pet is very attractive to bugs as a water source. Keep your house as dry as possible to take away the water source-- dry counters thoroughly, promptly fix leaking faucets, and empty pet water bowls in the evening when everyone is sleeping.

Seal Cracks

Most insects are small in size and can squeeze through the tiniest cracks to enter your home. Take the time to examine the exterior of your home to search for any small openings that bugs may use to access your home, and then seal them. Don't forget to check around where the utility pipes exit your home-- there are often exterior gaps around them that need to be sealed to prevent insects from getting in your house.

Handle Trash Properly

Bugs are highly attracted to trash, so make sure you handle your household trash properly. Make sure that all food trash is put in a garbage can that has a tight lid on it, and empty the trash as often as possible. Don't forget to clean and sanitize your kitchen garbage can regularly to remove any spills or debris.
